Gavi has managed to establish

Gavi has managed to establish himself in the Barcelona starting line-up at the age of 17. after he was given the nod earlier this season by former coach Ronald Koeman. His successor Xavi Hernandez has also placed his confidence in Gavi, whose contract with Barcelona runs until June 30, 2023.

The two parties have yet to reach an agreement on his potential renewal, even if the Spain international is willing to stay put. In the meantime, however, the visit of Gavi’s agent Ivan de la Pena to Real Madrid’s offices in Valdebebas a few days ago triggered rumours about potential Los Blancos interest in the Barcelona midfielder.

However, De la Pena went to Valdebebas to negotiate the contract renewal of Real Madrid B midfielder Marc Cucalon.

It should be noted that De la Pena, who plied his trade at Barcelona, had come close to joining Real Madrid in the past, but his family finally opted for a move to the Blaugrana.

Gavi himself has previously turned down Real Madrid and opted for Barcelona, while something similar happened with his teammate Nico Gonzalez, who made clear that he wants to play for Barcelona when Los Blancos came knocking.

Non-aggression pact

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has unofficially agreed with his Barcelona counterpart Joan Laporta to not make any moves for each other’s players when they are heading into the last year of their contracts.

Several elite European clubs, including Bayern Munich, have placed Gavi on their radars, but both his agent and the player have prioritised negotiating with the Blaugrana over entering into talks with other clubs.

However, neither Gavi nor Ronald Araujo, whose contact also ends in 2023, have reached a deal to extend their deals yet and Barcelona may risk losing them on a free transfer next summer.
