Reigning NFL MVP and Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes visited the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on the opening day of the tournament. On Wednesday, Mahomes, his wife Brittany and their two-year-old daughter Sterling Skye were spotted at Stadium 1 watching the men’s singles first-round match between USA’s Marcos Giron and Aleksandar Kovacevic.
In mid-February, Mahomes led the Chiefs to a thrilling win over the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.
Since then, Mahomes has been relaxing and enjoying quality time with his family.
Brittany Mahomes: Not the brightest idea to bring a toddler a tennis match
After the Giron and Kovacevic match finished, Mahomes’ wife Brittany jokingly revealed that bringing a toddler to a pro tennis match wasn’t the brightest idea.
“Brought a toddler to a Professional Tennis Match today, not the brightest idea,” Brittany Mahomes captioned her Instagram post. On Stadium 1, the Mahomes family witnessed Giron clinching a 6-3 7-5 win over Kovacevic. Giron made the first big move in the match, breaking Kovacevic in the third game to open a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth game, Kovacevic had a chance to get the break back but Giron saved a break point to confirm his break and go 3-1 up. After preventing Kovacevic from getting a break back, Giron broke Kovacevic again in the ninth game – when his fellow compatriot was serving to stay in the first set.
At the start of the second set, Giron had a break point in the second game but Kovacevic was able to save it and avoid going down by an early break. In the next nine games, not a single break point was seen as Giron led 6-5 without breaks in the second set.
But then in the 12th game – when Kovacevic was serving to stay in the match – Giron broke his fellow compatriot to complete a straight-set win. For Giron, it was a very important win since he came to Indian Wells riding a two-match losing streak.
When it comes to 24-year-old Kovacevic, he was making his main draw debut in the desert. It was the first-ever meeting between Giron and Kovacevic.
